Seventy University Drive

Amherst, MA

Seventy University Drive is a modern, luxury apartment building that Western Builders completed in the summer of 2019. The 31,977 sq ft housing project includes 36 apartments with a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three- bedroom options. It serves a range of tenants, from college students to families and young professionals. A number of apartments are also reserved as affordable housing to be rented through the Amherst Housing Authority.

The apartments are built close to the Norwottuck Rail Trail for convenient travel to Amherst College. It’s also an easy bike ride on the Swiftway to the heart of UMASS. This ideal location helps to blur the lines between the two college. In addition, the apartments are less than a mile to the center of Amherst and all it has to offer, helping to encourage students to visit off-campus businesses.

The land that has become Seventy University Drive was donated by the Kentfield family back in 1963, and was used exclusively for agricultural purposes for nearly 15 years prior to the start of construction. At the inception of the housing project, there was a challenge due to extensive wetlands. However, the owner and the civil design group worked closely with the conservation commission to develop a plan that uses both infiltration basins and bio-retention basins.
